What we are involved in...
We at Branstetter and Sparks Optometrists, strive to give back to the community. We are involved in a few projects that are ongoing and help people and families of all ages and backgrounds.
- See to Learn—Our doctors give a complimentary visual assessment for all children three years of age. We feel strongly that visual development is very important. If vision, or the eye itself, is not developing properly there are many things that can be done to guide correct development. If these situations are caught early, a child can successfully reach kindergarten and continue through school without added difficulty.
- Project Access—Our doctors donate eye examinations to Project Access, a Sedgwick County medical association that assists people who cannot afford medical insurance and do not qualify for public assistance. For information on enrolling in Project Access, call 316-688-0600.
- VOSH—Dr. Branstetter gives of her time and travels to foreign countries to donate glasses and do complimentary examinations to people who do not have access to health care. We welcome any donation of old pairs of glasses to utilize for these trips.
Habitat for Humanity--2010 Women Build
This year our office was again fortunate to participate in the 2010 Habitat for Humanity Women Build. This event was held from September 14 through October 9, and in that time a house was built for a very deserving family. We at Drs. Branstetter and Sparks, Optometrists closed our office on the afternoon of September 22, 2010 and began working on the inside of the house. On this year's build we were in charge of insulating all of the outside walls throughout the house. We installed insulation and made sure all of the pipes were insulted against the harsh weather conditions of Kansas. We also worked on the roof and framed the windows. Each person had a great time and really took home a fantastic experience.
This picture shows Jen A. and Heath working to install insulation around the window.
Here we have Andrea and Jeannette working hard to install that insulation as well.
Here is Dr. Sparks up in the attic of the house putting in some finishing touches.
Panama, 2012
Dr. Branstetter goes to Panama every two years to perform eye examinations for hundreds of people. If you have any old pairs of glasses, we will gladly take them and put them to good use in Panama.
